Roll Call, and an unidentified beached…heartthrob?

Time for roll call. I need the name of the biggest city near you, please.

This is serious! I'm thinking about a short little book signing tour in mid-June for the release of Rises the Night, and I'm trying to figure out where to go.

Since it would be fun to meet some of you in person, I'd like to know where you're located. So give me the biggest-ish city near you in the comments section.

And while you're at it, can you name this former heartthrob? (Think '80s, gals.)

(If you give up, the answer is on my Muse/News blog post today.)

    Oh man. I can’t believe that’s Val.

Biggest city near me is Cologne. In mid-June, though, I’m going to be moving to Toronto, so you can always come visit me there!

  2. Darla says:

Hee. Well, the biggest city near me is Kaiserslautern, but heck, I’d even drive to Frankfurt. ;-)

Just FYI, there’s an army officer stationed here who’s a dead ringer for Tom Cruise–he’s in better shape, though. Maybe the Tom Cruise of 5-10 years ago. *g*

  3. Colleen says:

Heh heh heh…well, I was rather thinking of the contintental US. LOL.

However, Meardaba, I’m only 4-5 hours from Toronto and love the city. Maybe I’ll make it there in the future! Sassymonkey lives there too.

  4. Lisa says:

Nearest would be Denver, but that’s still 6+ hours away. I live in Rapid City, SD and no one good EVER comes here!

And that picture is heartbreaking to me. Sob.

  5. Caryle says:

Well, I live in the Des Moines, IA area, but it’s not exactly what I consider big. If I drive 3 or 4 hours north or south, I’d reach Kansas City or Minneapolis.

As for the picture, what the heck happened to him? :crosses fingers that it’s for an acting role???:

  6. Cory Williams says:

I live in Hattiesburg, MS, which is a pretty big city for Mississippi. However, close places are New Orleans; Mobile, AL; Jackson, MS.

  7. SciFiChick says:

It looks like a pregnant Val Kilmer. My word.

And I live near Indy.. and it’s not that far from MI.. So, you need to do a signing down here!

  8. Tori Lennox says:

The nearest big city to me is Memphis (about 80 miles). Not that I ever get down there, mind you. :)

  9. Alexandra says:

Eek! That was scary…what the hell happened to dear Val? Oh my…poor guy, middle age spread anyone?

Oh, and cities? If you ever come north, into Canadian soil, do come by Quebec City, one of the most beautiful small cities on the planet, and we’re celebrating 400 years next year, 2008!

  10. Janet says:

O.M.G.!!! Val looks like he’s going the way of Marlon Brando!

Boston! But don’t schedule it for the weekend of the 22nd, I’ll be away!

  11. Gypsy says:

Atlanta or Jacksonville or Orlando. :)

Oh, Val. Sigh. It happens to the best of us, myself included.

  12. maggie says:

    Hartford Connecticut

  13. maggie says:

    It’s John Travolta ??

  14. Anissa says:

Ooh, Phoenix. Come to Phoenix! Oh, June? Maybe not. But it’s a dry heat. LOL! Actually June isn’t the worst, but it’ll be hot.

  15. Carl V. says:

Yep, definitely a beached Kilmer!!! Did you see him in Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang? Such a great, crass film. He proved he can be funny.

Of course good ol’ Kansas City is very, very near me, my wife, Jeff and his wife (both fans), a couple of friends from work who blog and read your book right away. But I don’t want to pressure you or anything. ;)

St. Louis is bigger and 3.5 hours away and several of us would road trip there to rub elbows with you.

  16. Jeff says:

I’m just a short distance away in Troy, Michigan. :-)

If you’re interested in Tarot, come to my blog to find out about a new Vampire Tarot deck.

  17. Susan Helene Gottfried says:

Aack! was I right when I thought that was Mad Martigan, himself, Val Kilmer???? Don’t DO that to me, Colleen. I’m liable to tell you to go to Cleveland!

I’m really in Pittsburgh and if you find your way here, I’m at your disposal, kidlets permitting.

  18. ren says:

hey, hey, NO ONE looks good in a wet suit! poor guy. he’s still talented enought to make movies and smart enough to make fun of himself. i don’t mind a little extra val to hug!

  19. Teresa W. says:

What about Toledo, Ohio it’s just over Michigan border line.

  20. An says:

Brussels is not an option, eh? :-p

And jaikes…er, Val looks like a seal :-s

  21. Killlashandra says:

Albuquerque. Since I my daughter has been bitten by the vampire bug she would get a kick out of seeing you.

  22. Chris says:

New Orleans! We’d love to see you here. There’s a Barnes and Noble and Borders literally 2 minutes from each other in Metairie which is a suburb of New Orleans. You could hit both stores with one stone. We love our vampires down here!

  23. Nancy says:

Is that Val Kilmer? HArd to tell fromthe photo. He looks like a beached whale.

Portland, Maine. We are a small city compared to some.

  24. Kailana says:

Biggest town near me is Halifax, Nova Scotia. But even it is small by many standards

  25. Christine d'Abo says:

The biggest city closest to me is Halifax. If you want bigger than that then we have to go to Montreal!

  26. Carl V. says:

Ah, Halifax…brings up warm, fuzzy memories of Anne of Green Gables.

  27. Dance Chica says:

Washington, D.C.! You gotta come on by. Everyone comes to Washington, D.C.! LOL. :-P

  28. wendy roberts says:

If you come to Vancouver I’ll even let you stay with me. What? Hanging with my 4 kids isn’t a holiday. Fine. How about meeting me at NYC in July? We can do the town and do a signing! Pullleeease?

  29. Stacy ~ says:

Chicago! That’s not too far from MI, and Ohio. It’s the middle of the country (almost) so???

He looks a lot like a sea lion in that picture LOL

  30. Stephanie says:

Yikes! It looks like Iceman (or Jim Morrison - which ever floats your boat) gained a little weight!

I actually like in Peoria, Illinois. Barnes & Noble and Borders here!! I’m about 2 1/2 hours from both Chicago and St. Louis though. So, I MIGHT be up for a road trip!!

  31. Stephanie says:

For the record, Laurell Hamilton was at the Barnes & Noble in Springfield, Illinois last year!! (it’s only an hour away!!) Regardless, if you hit Illinois, I’ll try to make it!!

  32. Jaye Wells says:

Big D! Please come to Texas, I’ll ply you with great Mexican food and margaritas.

  33. Katie says:

    Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Please come! or even Tulsa but the other one is the state capital… I’ll even try to drive to Texas if you go there!

  34. booklogged says:

Come to Salt Lake City, Utah! Lots of fresh blood here!

  35. meardaba says:

Errr, Carl V, Anne is in PEI, not Nova Scotia.

  36. Carl V. says:

Yes, I know, but Halifax features prominently as a place that she either visits, or goes to school, or something, so whenever I hear ‘Halifax’, which I admit is not often, I always think of Anne. ;)

  37. Nancy, aka Bookfool says:

Jackson, Mississippi. But, I’m heading to Ann Arbor in a few weeks. You’d better be in town!!! :)

  38. Zeek says:

Biggest-ish City to me is Lancaster,York, or Harrisburg PA (Lancester being the closest)- but Philly is about an hour and 45 minutes- might be persuaded to drive on down- although I hate that city, LOL!

And O My Frickin God, Val! How you have left yourself go!

  39. Mary says:

I am glad the press don’t sneak around taking pictures of me while I’m at the beach — poor guy! He still is cute though and a fun actor in Kiss Kiss.

I would love to meet you in KC. Loved the sneak peek by the way. Very, very nice! Thank you!

  40. Mary says:

Is it the press “doesn’t”? Press is plural, right? Where’s my Sistrunk and White when I need it?

I am glad members of the press don’t sneak around…

  41. jen says:

phoenix AZ please. I’d love to meet you!
