1. Murder By Death ~ A Neil Simon classic that makes fun of nearly every literary detective (as of the 1970s), plus an all-star cast. Nancy Walker, Truman Capote, Peter Falk, Peter Sellers, Maggie Price, David Niven…the list goes on and on.
2. Young Frankenstein ~ Mel Brooks' classic that, for some reason, scares the bejeebers out of my kids! As for me, my favorite line is "Roll, roll…roll in ze hay."
3. Austin Powers ~ Gotta love those teeth. And the fashions.
4. Monty Python and the Holy Grail ~ Not only do my children watch this one and quote it mercilessly, but my daughter is going to be one of the Knights That Go "Ni!" for Halloween. Now, if I can just find her a couple coconut shells….
5. Spaceballs ~ I've been subjected to this flick too many times in the last year, since my kids discovered Star Wars, and then this Mel Brooks spoof. Part of my morbid fascination is wondering whatever happened to Daphne Zuniga, grieving over the loss of John Candy, and realizing yet again that Bill Pullman is a dead-ringer for a guy I nearly married.
6. The Princes Bride ~ The classic. Too bad Janet Mullany hasn't seen it.
7. This is Spinal Tap ~ Wow! I haven't seen this one since…well, since Lenny & Squiggy were on daily reruns. I'm sure I'd enjoy it even more now that I'm a bit more worldly.
8. Robin Hood | Men in Tights ~ Love Mel Brooks! Love men in tights! Cary Elwes rocks. (Did you notice that he's graduated into villain roles now–he played the bad guy in the recent Ella Enchanted.)
9. Naked Gun ~ Leslie Nielsen, the Prince of Spoofs. (Brooks is the the King.)
10. Blazing Saddles ~ You knew I'd put this on the list!
11. Airplane! ~ Leslie Nielsen and Robert Hays. Mmmhmmmm.
12. High Anxiety ~ I'm a big Hitchcock fan, so I really enjoyed this one. Especially the "Vertigo" scene.
13. Best in Show ~ I'm cheating and putting this on the list though I haven't seen it yet–my friend Binger loves it, and so I'm including it on his recommendation.
Your favorites? Come on, share!

The second installment of the Gardella Vampire Chronicles takes Victoria to Venice and Rome.

I love “The Princess Bride” and “Men In Tights!” Cary Elwe was great in them. I would watch “Men in Tights” when I was feeling down because it always made me laugh, no matter how many times I had seen it!
Great list!

Second the recommend for Best in Show, I love that movie!
The Spinal Tap DVD has practically a whole ‘nother movie’s worth of deleted scenes, some of which are hysterical. Definitely worth getting.
Great movies!

Oh, lots of great flicks on here! You have great spoof taste!

I love spoof movies and mocumentaries. Monty Python is my favorite from that list, but I like them all.

6, 7, and 10 for me please.
I want to see 13 as well. I’ve heard great things.

I was so glad to see Best in Show on your list — it is one of my all-time favorite movies. You also need to see Waiting for Guffman and A Mighty Wind; both similarly hysterical.

Colleen, I wanted to thank you for something you mentioned months and months ago on your blog. Borax/Boiron for cold sores. What a life saver! I get horrible ones when I’m under stress (which is like all the time.) Thank you so much!

My favourite is Muder By death, because I love detectives.
Thanks for visiting Maia’s picture TT!

There is no better spoof than Spinal Tap. There really isn’t; I made the Tour Manager watch it (his first time!!!) a month or so ago.
I want to see Best in Show, too. I believe it’s in my Netflix queue, but it’s almost as scary as my TBR.
Speaking of which, I have two books in front of yours, so as soon as I get through them, you’re all mine, baby!!! I SO cannot wait.

I love the Princess Bride, but I’m not usually a big fan of spoofs. I did like Best in Show.

Yay for the return of Thursday Thirteen! (I’ve been really bad lately too.)
Anything that Christopher Guest does is funny. My Spinal Tap DVD has been lent out more than any of my other ones because I’m a firm believer that everyone needs to see it. Waiting For Guffman is the one every theatre person MUST see too.
Oh, and the musical version of Young Frankenstein coming to broadway? I’m both incredibly excited and scared witless that it will ruin perfection when it opens.

I think the Princess Bride has to be my favourite, but oh to see how many of those movies I’ve actually seen. Lol! Brought back happy memories.

Galaxy Quest is my all-time favorite spoof!

I haven’t seen a couple of these, but the ones I have seen are great! I love Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
Thanks for visiting my TT!

I’ve seen them all except 3 and 6. Your friend is right — Best in Show is excellent!
