Ahhh! Milka!

Our children's old au pair, who is from Germany, visited us over the weekend while on a two-week vacation here in the US. It's always fabulous to see Jan, and it felt just like old times while he was here. (He lived with us from Sept 2002-Aug 2003.)

He speaks absolutely perfect English, and he's a big Hollywood buff, so we had lots to talk about.

But one of the best things about his visit was that he brought Milka! Oh joy, oh joy, oh joy! The best chocolate ever. So creamy and yummy and smooth. Mmm. (We also have an au pair from Holland who brings us Milka too, so I'm hoping she'll come for a visit again soon. She also reads this blog, so HINT HINT!)

Milka just makes Hershey's taste like wax. I'm sorry. It ruins the taste buds for any other chocolate, except maybe Godiva. Maybe.

So here he is, surrounded by the variations of Milka that he brought, and that we have been enjoying all weekend.

It's like Girl Scout cookies–you get it once a year, so you indulge all at once. And then have to wait till the next time.

At least, that's how it is at my house–but the main reason is for self-preservation. After all, if I don't eat it, someone else will

So, are you a hoarder or an indulger? What's your favorite chocolate?

What a coincidence Milka, especially White is my favourite of the moment. World Market has had more than its fair share of my money from me visiting when I’m on a chocolate binge.

  2. KAITLIN says:

Mmm…chocolate! *sigh* Chocolate is my total downfall. I like just about any chocolate, but I think my favorite are See’s Candy’s blueberry truffles. Talk about yummy! :) They just melt on my tongue and well, they’re super good.

I’m a Milka girl too! I love going to Europe because I always bring back a bunch of it! I wish I could say I’m a hoarder, but no. I’m just a big pig!

  4. Tink says:

I’m eating my favo chocolate right now and it’s from… Milka! Koeienvlekjes to be precise: “cow’s spots” milkchocolate with white chocolate spots. Look here:

I’m not a huge chocolate eater (give me salt and vinegar chips and then we’re talking…) but when I do eat chocolate I like it dark — the darker the better — to the point of bitter!

  6. Janet says:

Vosges Goji Berry Bar: Tibetan goji berries + pink Himalayan salt + deep milk chocolate = delicious!!!

  7. Christine d'Abo says:

Oh those sound so tasty!! I love Lindt chocolate, but I also have a soft spot in my heart for Ganong. It’s a Canadian company, and they are the inventor of the modern chocolate bar. I grew up in the town where their factory is.

    Love Pal-o-mine bars.

  8. Linda says:

I love Lindt, in particular the milk chocolate truffles. They are really smooth & just melt in your mouth.

  9. Lieke says:

Hi colleen, just got back from my vacation and I saw your piece about the Milka chocolat. I didn’t know you liked them so much. I should have brought some when I visited last year, but I will bring some when I will visit you next time okay?? ;-)

  10. Jan says:

    Hi Colleen

Just got back from NYC and the first thing I did was to check your blog. :-)
There is one little mistake: I lived with you from Aug 2004 till Sept 2005.

Now I’ll just go to bed and after that I will of course have some MILKA :-)
