It's definitely winter here in Michigan. February is usually the worst month of the year–even though it's short, it's so hard to get through it with the dark, cold days and too-early-alarm mornings.
So I thought I'd remind myself of the things I like about a Michigan winter. The list won't be all that long, but at least there are some things. Feel free to add to the list yourself!
What I Like About Michigan Winters
- Snow days. We do have them, despite the fact that we get enough snow that we should be used to it–but it's a nice surprise in an otherwise interminable week when we get to go back to sleep instead of getting the kids up and off to school.
- The morning after an ice storm. To me, there is nothing more beautiful than the sun shining over trees dripping with ice, glittering like diamonds on the snowy ground. The details, the beauty…breathtaking. Absolutely breathtaking. (I will take a picture next time this happens.)
- Being able to wear heavy sweaters over layers of clothing…they hide a multitude of physical sins and they're cozy to boot!
- Being able to grocery shop and then go to lunch or somewhere else without worrying that the food will spoil.
- Ice-skating under the moon and stars.
- Roaring fires in the fireplace, cuddled up with my Music Man/kids/a good book/a great movie/etc.
- Comfort food. We eat lots of comfort food in the winter, and I don't feel guilty about it! Meatloaf, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, etc.
So there you have it.
Reasons to like winter even when it's dark and dreary and cooooold.

Lots of large hot chocolates from Caribou Coffee - my favorite!
A great excuse to stay snuggled in bed reading. Last week I even got a snow day from work and you know I was reading The Bleeding Dusk!
Nothing like a fire in the fireplace…
Honestly, I really don’t care for winter much(my dog Jack loves it though-he’s and Australian Shepherd mix.) I did appreciate the glitter on the fresh snow last night as we walked to my daughter’s orchestra concert though. Why do I live in Wisconsin - family of course!

I had to laugh at No. 4 on your list. As you know, I’m not a fan of winter. So what’s happening today? We’re having our first snow of the season. It’s the first time our lawn has been white this winter. The street has now melted off even though the flurries are still flying. As long as the roads are clear, I don’t mind it so much.

Oh, that all sounds very appealing to me. I’m born, bred and reared in the deep South and we barely even have a snow flurry where I am. I love cold weather but, so far, this winter, I haven’t even had to break out a heavy jacket!

I am also from the south and when I see video of awful weather (like the Packers game against Seattle a few weeks ago) I feel very happy to not have to worry about frostbite. Although I whole heartedly agree that warm (fireplace) fires and wearing sweaters to cover up trouble spots are some of my favorite things about winter.
Way to see the bright side of things!

Ugh! SO jealous! Here in Alabama, we usually have maybe 10 genuinely cold days a year. And those days seem to be invariably followed by weird, 75 degree days in the middle of January. I was born in the South, and have never lived anywhere else, but I totally missed out on getting the Love Hot Weather Gene!
