The Curse.

Do you know about The Curse?

You know…when you rave about something to someone–a great restaurant, a wonderful show, a good place to work, whatever…and then you take your friend to that restaurant/show, or help them get a job there or whatever…and then it sucks?

Yeah.

It always happens to us with restaurants. Music Man and I love restaurants, and it never fails. We'll find a great one that we love (The Mainland Inn in Lansdale, PA; The French Laundry in Fenton, MI)–not just once, but dozens of times, we'll go and it will be perfect…and then we'll finally get someone to go with us.

And it's meh.

What about you? Do you suffer from The Curse too?

Usually only with my mother. But her opinion of anything is totally based on how much it costs and whether she had to pay.

It’s a little different for me - I pretty much am the curse whenever I go into a restaurant! Nine times out of ten my order is screwed up or cold or forgotten. How do I handle it…not too well. I do try to keep the b***h level to a minimum - hopefully to avoid customer service “revenge!” :)

Sort of - I experience it a bit differently though. I get so excited about a book, a movie, or a television show and finally get someone else to read it or watch it with me, and they are not even as close to as excited or impressed by it. What a bummer. I tried to convert people to being Buffy fans, Firefly fans, Veronica Mars fans, and it failed way more than it succeeded.

ALL THE TIME! Just recently we went to a sushi place we love, with friends, and it was two hours of horrible service. Ugh! How do you convince them you didn’t make up the awesomeness the place usually is? You’re not the only one Colleen!!

My inlaws live on Shiawassee in Fenton. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been by The French Laundry and have never eaten there. I’ve always wanted to though, but if your experience was bad, maybe not..

I totaly agree with ya! That always happens to me.

I never seem to have food recommendations - maybe I don’t eat out enough?

AndreaC I have exactly the same problem with books. I can rave about a book, felt it spoke to me in so many ways and then have someone else read it and think it is ….OK. Maybe that is because I find it hard to explain WHY I like something.

    Have a good weekend everyone!

Ahh, pre-emptive strike. My inlaws live right across from the high school. I’m originally from Grand Rapids and have lived here since 1995.

I should really come to a signing or event and say hello.
