Ahh, the ’80s power ballads.

I graduated high school in 1985, so I grew up in the thick of those heart-swelling, tear-jerking power ballads.

And being a hormonal teen-ager, they did their job, let me tell you. Could be why I grew up to write romantic novels, huh?

Anyway, thought I'd post a couple of my favorites from that time. Hope brings back some memories on this (dreary in Michigan) Friday.

What did you rollerskate to with glitter balls and disco lights?

(Steve Perry just looks soooo uncomfortable in those friggin’ tight jeans. Sheesh.)

It was 1986 for me. That was the first power ballad that came to my mind! :) Maybe the tight jeans help him hit the high notes! ;)

I know my mom in law still watches Days of our Lives - are Steve and Kayla back on there again now? Are they still together?

Ha….I graduated in 1985 too! Journey always comes to mind when I think power ballads.I was going to say the same thing..I think the tight jeans were the secret to Steve’s high voice. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

You’re right, it is a dreary day in MI.

    Have a good weekend.

*gigglesnort* I graduated in ‘83, so I’m right there with you. And, yes, it is an extremely dreary day around here.

Thanks for the memory and the laugh.

P.S. Do you have any local writing group recommendations? Thanks!

that’s funny, the (very young) guys i work with were blasting peter cetera singing “the glory of love” yesterday and were shocked that i knew all the words.

actually, i am kind of shocked that i know all the words…

Ahhh, the roller rink. Good times, good times.

I graduated in 1989, but I vividly remember slow skating with Dusty Atherton (he was SOOOOOO hot!) at the roller rink to Crazy for You by Madonna.

‘84 for me! And this is too weird because I was just reading another blog where Open Arms was mentioned!

ahhh the 80’s….1988 was particularly good for me. And now the 20 year reunion is rearing its ugly head. I am actually looking forward to it. Steve Perry and his pants were OUT of control girl. Anybody remember Rick Astley? oooohhhh

Thanks for the memories today. :)

I grew up with my 2 annts babysiting me and all we did was watch MTV (that was when they played music videos). They LOVED all of these songs, and I thought they were too cool so ofcourse I liked them too. There favorite was the gruop Wam.

  9. Cheryl says:

Oh, Pete and I were just talking about Journey last night. We are looking forward to summer and the glimmer of a possible outdoor concert. It has been a very long while.

I cant think of the 70s and 80s without thinking of Styx, The Commodores and Meat Loaf. ….and then of course Lionel Riche and Diana Ross.

I was of course a big Pillow Talk fan which surprisingly enough has somehow stood still in time.

Wow, what fun…..maybe I will pull out some of my old albums and reminisce. Thanks for the memories.

  10. Cheryl says:

Oh, middle school dances would not have been the same without Foreigner….of course

  11. stephanie says:

Crazy for You was definitely one. 1988 for me. And Bryan Adams’ Heaven was another one. And don’t forget Never Say Goodbye by Bon Jovi (that was my Prom theme!!) Oh man…you’ve got me on a roll!! George Michael’s Careless Whispers, Mr. Mister’s Broken Wings, anything by Howard Jones….OMD , If you Leave!!

    Man. Those were the days!!

  12. Michele says:

I was in junior high in 1985 but watched ‘Days of Our Lives’ every single day and I was crazy about Steve and Kayla. Soaps were one of my first introductions to romance and I don’t know about now but back then, they did it right (until they found a way to break the couples up).

And 80’s music, espcially the ballads, rules forever.
