Back in one piece.

Me, that is.

Thanks so much to my guest bloggers who came by and kept everyone entertained while I was in Pittsburgh. I really appreciate it, and it appears that the regulars (and lurkers) did too.

Thought I'd post a couple pics from the Vampire Ball–nothing really exciting but you get the idea.

(Don't you love the boots?)

I'll write more on the convention later, but here's the two sentence overview:

BIGGEST EXCITEMENT: Having a one-on-one cup of tea with one of my all-time favorite authors, Roberta Gellis! What a treat to chat with her for nearly an hour.

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT: I didn't see hide nor hair of Fabio. (So, no picture, Binger.) Wahh!

So, more later when I get some pictures and have more energy to write.

And, now, in the category of Newsy News…

While I was in Pittsburgh, I received an email with the cover for my first UK release, coming soon from Allison & Busby.

Isn't it gorgeous? I absolutely love it!

(And do you realize that that's got to be Phillip on the front with Vic? Poor Phillip.)

So that's all the news that's good for now. More later when I catch up on my sleep.

Gorgeous cover! She looks quite like Natalie Dormer, doesn’t she? Natalie plays Anne Boleyn on The Tudors on Showtime.

Glad to hear the conference went well. Heard it was quite the wacky time.

  2. Kristin says:

Glad you’re back and glad you had fun! :) Like the cover…makes me think of Phillip, too. You really, really wanted to see Fabio…I can’t believe it’s not butter Fabio(that is the right commercial isn’t it)?

  3. firest says:

I need more. What happened during your converstation over tea… what did you take away…
Was also thinking about how enticing you look in that shot and then… what is that behind your back?!?!?
Egad! By the time I was lured in it would be too late! Right through the heart!!!

  4. stargazer says:

Love the vampire outfit!! The Boots Rock!
Cant wait to hear all about it. Glad you had fun.

  5. Rachel says:

Ooh, now I’m experiencing MAJOR boot envy! Gorgeous! And Roberta Gellis (and Beatrice Small!) is an idol of mine, too. So tea envy as well! ;)

  6. Lynn Irwin Stewart says:

Colleen, glad you had a wonderful time! Have had a long (and not very pleasant) week and didn’t get to come by earlier and check things out.

I do have a question — why do they use different covers in different parts of the world?

  7. AmandaG says:

Welcome home! Helloo boots! Those are very cool. I’m glad your back!

  8. AmandaG says:

I meant ‘’you’re'’ not your. I hate that

  9. David Jebb says:

Now, being from Northern Ireland, I usually prefer covers, I’m sorry… look at Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files covers on amazon.co.uk to see what I mean.

    However…

I love the original covers SOOOO much for the Gardella books. There’s just the hint of face, a suggestion of flesh. My Victoria looks nothing like that in my head and my Phillip… The UK covers don’t have the same lurxuriousness to them, I suppose. Ah, well, as long as what’s in the middle is the same. Don’t judge a blah blah blah and all that!

    David xxx

  10. David Jebb says:

“UK covers” that first part should read.

    Sorry :(

  11. stargazer says:

How was everyone easl dressed for the Vampire Ball???? was there a lot of Goth and blood?? FUN stuff!

  12. Colleen says:

MK, someone else said the same thing about the model on the front looking like Natalie Dormer. I’m thinking that might only help the book, you know? I mean, I’d pick up a book if the model looked like Angelina Jolie…just because it would intrigue me.

Kristin, yes, The Fabio. I really wanted to get a pic with him because he’s such an icon. Yanno?

Firest, that was a stake behind my back. *mwahahahaaa* And in fact, I do have a picture (coming) of me using said stake.

  13. Colleen says:

More on the Roberta Gellis tea later, I promise. And I also was supposed to have coffee/tea with Bertrice Small…but her meeting with her agent went long and we had to get to the book fair. *stomps foot*

As for the different covers–Lynn, I guess it’s because different publishers want to be able to market the book in the best way to their audience. I guess it’s like movie posters–they’re different in different countries sometimes too.

David, it’s nice to hear from you! I love my original covers too, but it’s also nice to see different versions. And it has absolutely nothing to do with the size of my name on the cover.

    Honest.

  14. Colleen says:

PS for the Boot-Enviers…got those at the consignment shop. The only pair, and they fit perfectly.

    Kismet, no?

  15. Andrea says:

Welcome back, Colleen! Glad you had a great time. Can’t wait to hear more. I am so loving the pictures! And WOW, that UK cover is gorgeous. I like that your name is huge! ;)

  16. julia says:

Sounds like RT was a blast - with or without Fabio.

  17. Jennifer Armintrout says:

LOL, I thought that said “don’t you love the BOOBS”. I was like, “Um, yeah, they’re nice and all, Colleen, but they’re not really my thing.”

  18. James Goodman says:

You didn’t get to see Fabio? bummer…I rode the elevator with him. :D I just wanted to drop by to say that it was an absolute pleasure to meet you in person and I hope we cross paths again soon.

  19. Nancy Henderson says:

Colleen, I listened to you speak at the historical panel on Thursday at RT. You were so inspiring, and I was so thrilled to win an autographed copy of your book!
