How I will celebrate.

I just pushed SEND on the email to my editor which contains the complete manuscript for As Shadows Fade.

Yay! And wahhh.

I purposely waited to write the epilogue this morning, and so now I'm feeling a bit teary-eyed at the thought of bidding Victoria and Company farewell. (Although I may very well revisit one or more characters in my novella for the Bespelling Jane anthology, if the timing is right.)

So now, how will I celebrate?

Here's what I have lined up to indulge in over the next week or so:

  • Season Two of Friday Night Lights
  • Suzanne Brockmann's Breaking Point (which I've been hoarding forever….Max & Gina's story!)
  • A reread of Roberta Gellis's Alinor
  • The new episodes of BBC America's Robin Hood, which I've been taping
  • Chocolate
  • A belated birthday dinner with Music Man (my day was last week and got lost in the shuffle of deadline)
  • A massage.

Oh…and then starting work on my next project. (More on that later.)

So…that's my plan. Any other suggestions? What do you do when you're pushing up against a big project/paper/deadline…to celebrate being finished?

Colleen, though I haven’t had the pleasure of sending off an manuscript to an editor, I do understand how it feels when you’ve written the last word — I imagine it’s even more emotional when the work has been a series. I’m looking forward to whatever you write next!!

Enjoy ROBIN HOOD — Richard Armitage especially — I have already seen the entire second season (prepare yourself) — bad, bad me…but I’ll buy the DVD when it comes out so maybe I will redeem myself…

For celebration, I’d just fall into bed with a book and the TiVo remote in my hand…that’s what I’ll do after my daughter’s wedding is over, I think!

    Happy Belated Birthday!

Sorry you’re blue over goodbyes. :(
If it makes you feel any better, I’ve been stock-piling the series so I can read them all at once. I’m even going to read TRFA again. :)
    And happy belated birthday!

I have a question for ya though….what program do you type in…WORD?? I sent something the other day and all of the quotation mark were letters and = signs when she got it….any thoughts on this????

My celebrations always end up being different. A night out, a movie, finding a way to get together with JUST girls (a rare occurance in my life!)…
Congrats on getting it sent off, and happy belated birthday!

wow, i’m happy and sad for you too! congratulations and happy belated as well.

I celebrate with a little Joss Whedon whatever, followed by a bit of Johnny Depp whatever and some nice Lagavulin (scotch) and a Guinness while listening to some Prince, Queensryche and then a long nap. it’s a whole day just for me hee hee.

Yeah…I feel both happy and a bit sad for you, too. What an experience to have finished an entire series that YOU created - AWESOME!!! :) Wishing you a very Happy Belated B-day! Oh - a massage…that would be great! :) Spending the whole day reading a book or watching my favorite movies in bed is a nice indulgence for me(doesn’t happen too often - usually when I take a mental health day)! :) Enjoy your down time…can’t wait to hear about your next project!!! :)
Deneishia - my hubby just started drinking Lagavulin. I mentioned to him I had read about it in a vampire book(Black Dagger Brotherhood series) and he tried it when we were out a few weeks ago. He really liked it. It’s a bit pricey, but I think I will get him a bottle for Father’s Day. I just tried absinthe over the weekend. Made me think of Good & Plenty’s…so I got some to have when I have some more. It was a good experience! :)

Congrats Colleen and Happy Belated Birthday!! :D I usually celebrate spending a whole day sprawled on the sofa reading good books and then go out for the night, some bowling or a good movie at the theatre. :) Your plan sounds great though, especially the last 3 points…!!! ;)

  13. Carl V. says:

Happy belated birthday! and congratulations on the finishing of your book, and this series. It has been such a thrill to be a part of this and I am glad for us, the readers, that thrill has two parts remaining to it. Celebrate, you deserve it!!!
