LOTR lite.

Went to see Prince Caspian (of course) on Friday.

Mr. Barnes (I'm getting a little used to the name) was definitely The Hotness, and I think Susan was just a puddle of nonsense for being unmoved by him. Srsly. If I were her, I would have begged Aslan to let me stay!

But then, of course, there wouldn't be The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (in which Caspian plays another lovely role–can't wait for that!) and, even more exciting, The Silver Chair (which is my favorite of the series I think).

Anyway, I really enjoyed the movie, uneven dialogue notwithstanding. It definitely kept my interest for the 2:20 that it ran–which is unusual for me. I'm usually checking my watch cell phone for the time about 45 minutes into it, and my youngest daughter is usually just as antsy. But I was surprised when I took her for a bathroom break and saw that 1:20 had slipped by without my even realizing it.

That was great.

My biggest impression of it was that it was The Lord of the Rings Lite. There were lots of scenes that reminded me of LOTR, particularly The Two Towers–and pretty much most of those scenes weren't in the book anyway (in fact, I remember this book being my least favorite; perhaps that's why).

I don't make the comparison in a derogatory way, though. Not at all. This is, after all, a kids movie–thus the PG rating.

Reepicheep come to life was adorable, by the way. And Tilda Swinson, in her short scene, looked beautiful. And Anna Popplewell (Susan) is really going to be a beauty; almost Angelina Jolie-like.

William Moseley (Peter) looked like a bit of a dweeb, and Edmond not so much as he did in the first movie. Maybe by the time of Dawn Treader, he'll really have filled out.

And Lucy…absolutely adorable. Reminds me so much of my youngest in both looks and personality!

So that's my take on it. What did you think?

Count me in as someone who enjoyed it. I was telling my roommate this morning that I loved how the battle scenes were all “Braveheart-y” but with absolutely NO blood. LOL!

I thought the movie was well done, a good encapsulation of the book, and was definitely filled with enough action to keep the boys happy. I agree that Ben Barnes, and his cutie little faux Spanish accent was teh hotness. And yeah, Susan totally should have gone for it with him. And I’m always glad to see Tilda Swinton in any movie, so it was fun to see her cameo.

All in all, I thought a great entry in the series. Definitely darker than the first, but terrific nonetheless.

Colleen…don’t tell me you’re one of those people that open your cell phone during the movie and consequently distract [me] with the lighted display of your cellie…

I enjoyed it! Ok, I admit, before I saw the movie, I wasn’t that impressed with Mr. Barnes. But now, I see the appeal. :P
I love Lucy, she’s such a sweetheart, believing in Aslan. Woot.

  4. Colleen says:

LOL, Janet. I only open the cell down really low in my lap so as not to bother anyone else. I swear it! And only once, MAYBE twice.

MK, that’s it! Braveheart minus the blood!

Ames, welcome to the club. ;-)

I really liked the movie…and so did the rest of the family! :) Love those battle scenes…I get all choked up and have to tell myself to pull it together(got that way with LOTR, too). Felt it was darker too, but am really looking forward to the next installments! :) Thought that BB had a couple of “really good hair” scenes and do feel that Peter does put off a bit of dweebiness. Yup, I thought that Edmond did look better. LOTR lite is a good description(The Two Towers was my favorite of the movies…only saw it five times in the theater)! :) I love Lucy too…my 15 year old son finds her annoying, but I think that’s just a little sister kind of thing(do love her belief in Aslan). I’m sure we’ll get it when it comes out on DVD.

I had a really fun time watching it. I really enjoyed watching the interplay between the Pevensies, and especially liked Edmund. Prince Caspian was very, very pretty. I loved Reepicheep! And yes, Tilda Swinson’s part was so lovely and well-done.

All in all, a good way to spend an evening.

I was hoping to get out to see this over the weekend but it just didn’t work out. And this coming weekend is Indy, so not sure when I’ll get to the theatre.

  8. Ruth Martin says:

I thought it was great. My 10 yr old left the theatre and said, “Mom, he is a hottie”! Gotta Love it! It wassn’t my favorite of the series either, but I am glad they skipped the book between Lion, Witch and Wardrobe and did this one. I loved Edmund!! He is the one who has grown up the most! Favorite part with him.. ‘I know you’ve got it sorted” !! (After he dealt with the with witch!!) Classic!

  9. Brianne says:

Well I loved the movie! Both Peter and Caspian (in my opinion) are completely SEXY. I still love Peter more though- he’s not a dweeb! :) Caspian/Mr. Barnes is completely sexy!

So I do agree it reminded me a lot of LOTR. I love them both so…*shrugs*

But if anyone wants to watch it and doesn’t want to pay 8.00 then go to watch-movies.net. Click on Prince Caspian and then look for the one that has a rating in blue (you’ll know what i mean. underneath it’ll say __% said it worked) You don’t have to download anything so it’s pretty cool. It’s just not DVD quality.
