Indy, we hardly knew ya.

Well, that's not true. It just seems so sad that it's all over.

As you might have guessed, I saw the new Indiana Jones flick over the weekend. I enjoyed it for what it was–a visit with Indy and Co, despite the predictability of the plot and interminable action scenes.

Loved the line he said to Marion when he admitted all the other women in his life, "But they weren't you." Okay, yeah, a bit cheesy, not quite up there with "I love you." "I know."

But it warmed my heart and my Music Man loved the line too. (I guess I am married to a romantic.)

Anyway, I enjoyed it. And now I feel sad that the franchise is over. Maybe Mutt will take over (Mutt??) with a new series, but I dunno.

I feel sort of like I felt when I finished the last of the Victoria Gardella books. It's over! Wahh!

So how about you? Did you see it? What did you think? Did Cate Blanchett's Russian accent make you crack up?

Hey Colleen…didn’t see the movie yet, but my son did and just thought it was okay. The reason I replied though is your comment on “the last of the Victoria Gardella books.” Every time I notice that under What’s New I just feel all melancholy! :( *big sigh!*

On a happier note…I was blogging elsewhere with a girl from the UK and happened to bring up your books…and she said just that day she had picked up TRFA to check it out but was trying to have some restraint and didn’t buy it. Later that same day she read my blog and said that next time she was in the store she would pick it up for sure! :)

  2. Colleen says:

Oh, way cool! Thanks, Kristin, for letting me know. Yes, THE REST FALLS AWAY was just released in the UK with its gorgeous cover (I received my copies over the weekend of it and RISES THE NIGHT, and WOW!). Thanks for the pimpage.

As for the movie…I didn’t have high expectations, so I wasn’t disappointed. It’s not a bad movie, and there are a lot of great, funny lines and scenes. And some good closure. It’s just that it was very predictable plotwise. And like I said, the action scenes went on for-everrrrrr.

    But I enjoyed it nevertheless.

  3. Kristin says:

Yeah, she said the reason she picked it up was because of the cover! Any chance we can see it?

  4. MaryKate says:

I saw it. And my reaction was…Meh. I would rate them:

    Raiders
    Last Crusade
    BIG SPACE…A CHASM EVEN
    Crystal Skull
    Temple of Doom

I enjoyed it. I did love when Indy said, “I have a bad feeling about this.” I actually laughed out loud. And I loved the quick shot of the Ark of the Covenant. But I thought the movie overall was pretty silly. You’re right, Cate Blanchett was totally over the top. But you know what I think she was thinking, “I can transcend anything, look at my flawless skin.” Harrison Ford still has it though. Sure, his run is a little arthritic now, but put that man in his hat, and shazaam! He’s yummy again.

Colleen did you get the preview for Get Smart in your movie? We did, I have to say, watching Anne Hathaway kick ass in the preview totally made me want to put her in a corset and have her speak in a British accent and have her get it on with Max. Oh wait…kick a little vamp booty.

  5. Colleen says:

Sure! I thought I’d posted it before. I’ll post it later today.

  6. Colleen says:

OH! No, we didn’t get the preview for Get Smart…and I am SO waiting for that movie. I loved the show, and I’ll tell you, because of this movie is the main reason I thought of Ann for my Victoria (in my dream movie cast).

I’m so looking forward to seeing it.

And I completely agree with you on the ranking of the Indy franchise. I also loved that Indy kept making fun of his age.

    And yeah…Cate is ethereal.

  7. Tina says:

Ny husband and I saw the movie this weekend; and it was pretty much what we expected so we thought it was a good movie. We were visiting the in-laws and my mother in law went with us. She’s a big Harrison Ford fan; so she really enjoyed it.

As to the premiere of Get Smart - we got to see it. I agree, it looks like it will be a good movie.

  8. Ann M. says:

We saw it this weekend. I’d place this behind 1 & 3 and before 2.

It was cheesy at times and dialog that “I” could have written and I’m not a writer. Very predictable at times.

Harrison Ford still has it, though. Not a movie that I would run out to see again and again but definitely worth seeing in the theaters.

  9. Jennifer says:

Of ourse his name was Mutt! Don’t you get it? Here’s a clue: “We named the DOG Indiana!”

See, it’s his son. Both named after dogs.

  10. Kristin says:

Hey Colleen…found your post with the UK cover in it. It was April 20th with some of your other photos from the RT Convention! :) The Spanish cover kept coming to my mind, but after thinking hard(quite the feat for me) I did remember the other one…and you mentioning that the guy on the cover had to be Phillip…aww…poor Phillip! :) So, yup you already had that one covered. Thanks! :)

  11. stargazer says:

Hi Guys~ I love Indiana Jones! I had been waiting for this movie forever. I really liked it. But I love all of the Indi movies.
I laughed my butt off over the “we named the Dog Indiana” line in the 3rd movie!!!!!

  12. Michele says:

I thought the same thing about some of the action scenes- interminable and a little too much blue screen/special effects. But as I said to my friend as we walked out: it was a nice visit with old friends. I do think Shia LeBouef is a rising star with a lot of potential and Karen Allen was great.

And I can’t wait to see Get Smart. Anne Hathaway looks great and Steve Carroll is such a riot.

  13. Sparky Duck says:

Mutt will save the franchise, if you can get past the name Mutt

  14. Cory says:

I really enjoyed the movie. Especially that same line about them not being her.

  15. Carl V. says:

There were some fun moments, but I thought it was a terrible film made even more terrible by the fact that the time gap between films, the money invested, and the talent used all should have added up to something much, much better than this.

  16. stephanie says:

Truthfully, I was disappointed. I mean, Aliens? Come on. But I still love Indy. He will always be the greatest action hero, but this movie could have been SO much better.

I personally think Cate Blanchet’s incredible talent was totally wasted here.

  17. AndreaC says:

I have to second Carl V. and Stephanie. I was completely disappointed. I kept telling myself, “they aren’t going there” (re: the aliens), yet they did. I just can’t believe they wasted Indy’s comeback on this. They even wasted inside jokes, like Indy finding out the kid calls himself Mutt, it seemed forced rather than obviously yet comically connected to his dad’s comment about the dog being named Indiana. So weak….

  18. Kristin says:

My son said the Aliens were the reason he didn’t care for the movie very much either! :)

  19. Colleen says:

I heard that originally either Lucas or Spielberg wanted to do aliens, and that Ford didn’t. That’s why it took so long to come up with a script that they all could agree on. It was vintage Indy with aliens thrown in.

  20. Mary says:

Did NOT Like. I’m with Carl, Stephanie and Andrea. Bleh, aliens. And the jungle chase - too long. And the refrigerator. Seriously?

Was I the only one waiting for Shia to say, “Don’t call me Junior???”
