He just doesn’t do it for me.

I know lots of people who thought James McAvoy was fabulous (ie, hot) in Atonement. I never saw it (I like happy endings).

And he didn't do much for me as Mr. Tumnus in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe. You?

But, last night I conned the Music Man into taking me to see Wanted by telling him he could watch Angelina Jolie and it was rated R. (His response: "I'd rather look at you." Talk about brownie points!)

He didn't know anything about the movie except that Jolie was in it, and all I knew was that McAvoy played a loser who finds out he's really a skilled assassin.

Lots of blood. Pretty much through the whole movie. Nonstop. (Music Man's first comment to me after it was over: "You probably haven't seen that much blood in a movie ever." He's probably right.)

Some good lines and a couple laughs, especially near the beginning when Fox (Jolie) shows up all hard-ass and shooting things up, and Wesley (McAvoy), who suffers from anxiety attacks, is freaking out during their shoot-em-up car chase.

I'd probably rate the movie a 6 on a scale of 1 to 10. It could have waited for DVD.

However, my point is: even after he shed the loserishness and became The Man, McAvoy generated absolutely zero quiveration for me. He still looked like a kid.

But on the other hand, Cross (Thomas Kretschmann) totally did it for me. (Check out that gun.)

Anyone else see the movie? What did you think?

I didn’t see the movie, but I have to agree about James McAvoy. He’s too slight for me. He’s just…petite. I like my men burly.

That being said, he could read me the phone book all day long and it would make me happy. He’s got a lovely accent.

I loved the movie. Every damn second of it. Would go see it again in a heartbeat. Then again, if there’s action, bullets and bloodshed, I’m there. Heh. I thought McAvoy was great. The change in his character through the course of the film was awesome.

    And Angelina Jolie kicks ass.

    But yeah…Cross? O-M-G was he hot. ;-)

  3. mazoku says:

Hmmm, I like McAvoy, but I’d say he’s cute, not exactly hot. :) Now, Mr. Kretschmann, he’s another matter entirely, eheheh. ;)

  4. Jill James says:

Have to agree. McAvoy was cute, but not in a drop dead, sexy, kinda way. Cross was hot!!!!

I loved the movie!! Angelina Jolie kicked some major butt! soooo COOL.
Did you know her leather jacket from the movie is up for bid on Ebay???? last time I checked it was up to $7,000. WOW!

Sorry MK, no accent in this movie. I wanted to like him, and I did. But I just didn’t find him hot.

Jaci, you’re dead-on with his character change/growth. I got that and loved it. It was amazing to see!

I also thought the “world” of The Fraternity was pretty cool. Loved the idea of the weavers and Fate speaking to them through the loom.

Cross….yeah, he made it for me. I’d have liked to see him and Jolie get it on. *fans self*

  7. Riley & Tiki's Mom says:

I had to close my eyes for most of the action scenes because all that slo mo to fast mo made me nauseous. 2 dramamines did not help. My husband thinks I’m a freak. I agree with him.

Kinda weird what they did to the plot. It has almost nothing to do with the comic book it’s based on other than the characters. In the credits they list another book that they must have gotten the whole weavers thing from.

Cross - hot. McAvoy - not so much. Angelina Jolie - hot as always. Not that I play for that team, but she’s still way hotter than McAvoy.

  8. Colleen says:

Angie is definitely a kickass kinda girl. And she looks good (albeit a bit thin in the arms) doing it. Gotta love her.

  9. Suzanne says:

Eh, I’ve never thought he was hot, but I really enjoy his acting. He always delves right in.

Haven’t seen Wanted yet, but it’s on my list of Things To Do–though half the Things To Do will probably never get done?

  11. Ann M. says:

I plan on seeing this movie with my tow older kidlets after watching the commercials this weekend for the movie. I love watching Angelina Jolie in a kick*ss role.

No expectations except to expect a lot of action.

Also on my list is Wall*E. Can’t wait to it. We love Pixar in our household.

  12. CJHill says:

Gun? There’s a gun in that shot?

I don’t think I’ve ever seen him before but I can say I’d like to see more of him!

I don’t find him drool-worthy hot (yeah Cross was much sexier) but I can definitely see the appeal, especially when he went from loser to assassin - watching the transformation and how it made him cool was interesting to watch. I thought he was more appealing in “Becoming Jane”

And I do love Angelina in these roles. She is one fierce chick.

  14. Carl V. says:

Giving another guy perspective here…or maybe ‘the’ guy perspective, I haven’t see McAvoy in anything that I didn’t enjoy. He was a fun romantic lead in Penelope. He proved his acting chops in Atonement and Becoming Jane for sure, I thought he made a fun Mr. Tumnus. I am excited to see Wanted just because it looks like another fun action flick along the lines of Shoot Em’ Up or Mr. and Mrs. Smith, both films that were fun and violent for the sake of being fun and violent.

I prefer happy endings most of the time as well, but he was excellent in Atonement, he really was. And it was a beautifully shot film. Wow! Not one I could rewatch though. Becoming Jane is a sad-ish one that I can watch again and again as will the fluff that Penelope is when it comes out on DVD in a few weeks.

It seems he is one of our future bright spots and I for one am glad, because he can act.
