Bad wife confession.

Hope to see some of you tonight at the Borders in Flint, Michigan, for my booksigning.

And I’ll be at the Borders in Brighton, Michigan, on Saturday for another signing. Are you coming out?

Then the fam and I are heading off to see the Music Man play Lieutenant Schrank in a community theater production of West Side Story.

Can I make a confession?

I hate West Side Story.

I really do. I mean, first of all, it’s Romeo & Juliet…and I’m a romance writer. I don’t care for tragic endings (the end of The Rest Falls Away doesn’t count…because…well, because it doesn’t.)

And also…West Side Story is all about gangs and killings and rapes. Give me a good old vampire slayer any day, thank you very much.

And finally…that song. That song! “I Feel Pretty.” Ugh. Ugh-me-ugh! Yes, I understand it’s supposed to be ironic. But I hate the song. Really. Hate. The. Song.

So, this is how much I love my Music Man: I am going to sit through this play that I hate am not crazy about at all, take my kids to see a show with a bunch of gang violence and rapes, in order to see him in three scenes–and he doesn’t sing in any of them.

And, did I mention…I hate the show?

So, am I a bad wife?

Oh! And did I mention that he doesn’t read my books? Huh?

So I guess I’m not only not a Bad Wife, but I’m a particularly Great Wife.

    Right?

  10. Jill James says:

Colleen, considering you dislike the show I think you’re a great wife for going.

  11. mazoku says:

*gasp, wheeze* He doesn’t read your books (!!!) and still you’re enduring a show you completely hate?! What’s then this thing about being a bad wife? You should try phoning the Pope and ask if there’s still a vacant place for sanctification!! ;)

  12. stargazer says:

I am going with you are a GREAT wife!!!!! smiles*
I like Phantom of the Opera…and my husband took me to see that. He slept throught the whole thing, but he still got a ‘great husband’ award for taking me..I LOVED it!

Any wife that goes to support their hubby through something they don’t like is a fab wife!

Btw, I’ll be going to the signing next Friday in Oak Brook - looking forward to meeting you! I’m dragging Michelle Buonfiglio w/ me.

  14. Carl V. says:

I adore musicals and I absolutely hate West Side Story, so you’re not alone! :)

  15. Colleen says:

Oh! And to top it all off, last night I learned that one of my all-time favorite musicals, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, is being done by a different local community theatre troupe.

And that the daughter of one of our friends’ is in it. (Small role, but still.)

And guess which play I have to go see instead? Argh.

(But it appears we’ll go see the Sunday matinee of Cinderella, so I’m slightly mollified. Only slightly.)

  16. Colleen says:

Stacy! So psyched you and Michelle with be there! I was meaning to email her and let her know…so I’m glad you beat me to it. (I figured she was totally overwhelmed from the move.)

    Looking forward to it!

  17. Stacy ~ says:

Michelle can’t wait to go - can you do dinner? I emailed her some ideas, so maybe we can catch up beforehand if you’re up for it *g*

And this is the right location, correct?
