Olympics and West Side Story

So I made it through the production on Saturday. Unfortunately, my two youngest children were completely bored except when Music Man was onstage, so they made me take them out into the lobby for a good portion of the show. The choreography was pretty good, and I liked the set. The actors were all right (but Tony couldn’t sing) and seeing the show reminded me how much I didn’t like it.

Case in point: Tony comes to Maria’s bedroom after he kills Bernardo, tells her that he did–and she hugs him and invites him to bed. No tears, no hesitation. Nope, just: You killed my brother that I adore even though he treats me like a baby? That’s okay…climb in bed and take my virginity even though his blood is on your hands.

Um. Yeah.

There were other things (and I can critique community theater shows because I’ve done enough of them over the years, so I know whereof I speak)…that I won’t go into. Suffice to say, Music Man was good (reminded me of Robert DeNiro) and the rest of it was all right.

Now. Onto the Olympics. The swimming relays last night??? Was that not The Best?

Heart-pounding, unbelievable. Loved it.

And I’m trying to find a clip of the women’s fencing–I want to show my son and daughter. (They took fencing lessons and want to get back into it.)

So this is a busy week. On Friday I leave for my event near Chicago (Oak Brook, IL)…anyone coming out?

Saturday, I’ll be in Terre Haute. And Sunday I’ll be near St. Louis, in Brentwood, MO.

Hope to meet some of you out there!

Thanks to everyone who came to the signings this weekend! Great turnouts…and a special thanks to Lori who drove so far to come! Your hubby is a gem.

The swimming relay was awesome!!! I was especially thrilled after all the French team’s trash talking. :D

I think its great that your kids are into fencing .. if you want them to learn a bit more of the historical end of it .. check out http://www.geocities.com/bandohawk .. it is an historical re-enactment group that re-enacts Elizabethan England

I loved the relay! The women’s fencing was great too. They should have it online at nbcolympics.com; they have almost everything on film there if I remember correctly.

    Colleen, Colleen, Colleen…

Honey, you’re heading south. You need to head north…

I had no idea West Side Story was like that! Here I’ve been thinking I was missing something but now I’m glad I have.

I missed Sunday nights 4 x 100 relay but saw the Amazing Mr. Phelps tonight.

And what about that men’s gymnastic team? Not too shabby for a bunch of nobodies.

Hey - have you thought about getting someone to design some flair over at facebook? They got all sorts of that other Twilight series. We could do with some Gardella stuff.

But…but… the music! The dancing! OK, so the story leave a bit/lot to be desired. I just have a soft spot for WSS. Now if you tell us that you hate Into the Woods… that would be a tragedy.

I’ll be heading out to Oak Brook. Yay! I was checking the Borders website and the Oak Brook store does not have your signing listed. I don’t know if you want to contact them. Maybe they have tons of posters hanging at the store? I hope so! You deserve a big crowd.
