So I was over on Amazon today and right on the front page was a dangling carrot that I could not resist.
I’ve been thinking about buying a Kindle for a variety of reasons…partly because I think it’d be like an actor not having a DVD player. Or an iPod. Or whatever.
And so they’re giving a $100 rebate sort of thing if you apply for an Amazon Visa and buy a Kindle.
So, yeah, I did it. And I’m so excited!
Everyone I know who has one just loves their Kindle. I’ll report later when I get mine (some time next week?)
My only worry is that it might make it hard to read in the bathtub. Dare I?

Not sure I would tempt fate that way! Better to listen to an audio book from a device far removed if you want to mix the books with the bubbles…and don’t want to get pages soggy.

THIS neophyte wondered, “so, WHAT’s a Kindle?”. Researcher that I am, I looked it up. No color?!?!?! As someone her likes her illustrations (and her Gardella Vampire Chronicles book covers) in color; I’ll stick with the “real thing” for now.

I will not have a Kindle for a very, very, very long time. I have too many other big ticket items I need. Like a new mattress and a new desk chair. *sigh*

I’m sure, eventually, there’ll be no other recourse than to have books on Kindle (or something similar), but, as long as I can, I’m going to keep reading the old-fashioned way.

I know whereof you speak, Tori…but with the $100 off, and the fact that it’s a business expense (ahem)…well, I fell for it.
Carl, I think you’re right. I probably won’t tempt fate. But since the tub is one of my favorite places to read….I dunno.
Kerri, I forgot about the no-color aspect. Oops.

I have so many of my favorite books in paper, I’ll still be reading them.
But I think the Kindle will be great for travel, and also for putting my own manuscripts and notes on there. You can’t write on it, but you can store info. And I refer to my own manuscripts often enough that it’s nice to have it with me.
Plus the idea of putting umpteen books on there pronto…and receiving them immediately. *slurp*

The Kindle has its charming points, but for the moment I think I’ll stick with my beloved paper books. One of the reasons is that, me being a student, I’m physiologically broke, but the main reason is that my eyes go boom if I read from a screen for long periods. And I like to see all the spines of my books in my library. Ok, make this last one the main reason, I’m sentimental like that.

Oh, and I forgot: I wouldn’t tempt fate reading the Kindle in the bathtub either. If you drop a book in the water is bad enough, but if you drop ALL of your books…well, that’s tragedy. O_o

I\’m addicted to my real books! I love the smell of them, the feel of them and the weight of them in my lap. But then again, I still listen to albums - I haven\’t made the leap from the 1970s!
