Review: Juno, and on Watching Till the Bitter End.

Music Man and I had a chance to watch Juno last weekend. I’d heard so much about it, and the buzz was good, but I wasn’t certain what to expect.

I put it on late-ish on last Saturday night (that was Extra Hour night), figuring if it didn’t hold my attention, I could go to sleep…and if it did, I’d have that extra hour to fall back on.

I watched the whole thing, and so did Music Man, and I really loved it.

I loved many things about the movie–I loved the witty, erudite dialogue. I found it almost Jane Austen-ish, but in the 21st century. The plot was not predictable–and believe me, I tried! Every time I sort of thought I knew where it was going, and what was going to happen, I was wrong.

That’s a good thing.

I enjoyed Juno’s relationship with her parents–it was realistic because it was neither perfect nor completely dysfunctional. And I loved the TicTacs in the mailbox. The romantic in me just loved it!

Juno reminded both me and Music Man of our friend Steph, who performs as Tonks & the Aurors–in looks and mannerism. Plus Juno plays the guitar too! (So all through the movie, I kept thinking of you, Steph!)

Anyway, I was easily able to remain awake for the whole thing, and I laughed and cried and really enjoyed it…and I appreciated how it ended. I’m thinking about letting my daughter watch it someday when she’s a tish older.

For me, making it through the movie without falling asleep (especially when curled up in bed, but the couch will do in a pinch) is a mark of success! Music Man is fond of rolling his eyes when I suggest putting a movie on after 10 pm, because he knows that 9 times out of 10, I’ll fall asleep during it.

And he’s right. I do. So when I make it through a movie, that’s like an automatic five-star review.

Now, Music Man? He’ll stay up and watch till the Bitter End…even if the movie sucks. He can’t turn it off. Poor guy.

Me? I’m ruthless like that with books and movies and TV. If it’s not holding my interest, I’m done.

What about you?

My new crush’s season premiere: Tonight!

Yep. Still crushing on Alec Baldwin as Jack Donaghy (hey, the guy’s mom’s name is Colleen, and she’s one tough cookie!), and tonight is the premiere for the third season. I’ve got it all DVR’d and ready to go so I don’t miss one single episode.

Are you watching 30 Rock? If you aren’t, you’re really missing out. (Didn’t I tell you about Friday Night Lights? You trusted me on that, didn’t you? So trust me on this.)

So go get your DVR set up. Right now. (I’ll wait.)

Oh, you’re not at home? Okay, then set your cellphone to remind yourself to do it when you get home tonight. Really.

Anyway, I’ve been savoring the last few episodes on DVD for season two, so I haven’t seen the last two of them yet. So I get to watch them and then go right into the third season. Yay!

Now, Music Man and I have been arguing over something in regards to the show. So if you’ve been watching, please weigh in with your opinion.

He thinks that Jack and Liz are going to get together. He thinks Jack’s fascinated by Liz.

I’m not so sure. I think they’re more like brother and sister. (Yeah, he’s fascinated by her…but more in the way I’m fascinated by a spider…from a distance.)

What do you think? (Keep in mind I haven’t seen the last episode from last season yet….)

Totally crushing.

On Jack Doneghy.

Are you watching 30 Rock? If you aren’t, do it. Go put it on your Netflix queue (or Blockbuster or whatever) and you won’t be sorry.

(Go ahead. I’ll wait.)

Music Man and I have been watching the first season, and I’m not only loving the show (because of course, Tina Fey rocks) but I’ve fallen hard for Jack Doneghy.

When I saw the pilot, two years ago, I was sort of “meh.” I DVR’d the rest of the season, but never watched it. But because the show got so many Emmy nods last year, and this year, and partly due to Tina Fey’s brilliance as Sarah Palin, I decided I needed to see a few more episodes before I wrote it off.

So I’m about 2/3 done with Season One (I hear Season Two is even better–yay!) and I just love Alec Baldwin as Jack Doneghy. I just adore him.

I squeal and jab at Music Man every time he does something cute. Or noble. Or whatever.

And the first time I saw Kenneth the Page all I could think of was Napoleon Dynamite all polished up.

Anyway, if you’re not watching it, you must. It’s funny–but smart funny. And the characters are great.

If you are watching it, what’s your favorite episode? (And don’t you have a crush on Jack too?)

I think my favorite, so far, was the one with the contract negotiations for Josh. Although I liked the one with the horrible German prince (and Isabella Rossellini) too.

Sign Wars and Robin Hood updates.

1. Someone stole one of our yard signs. (But no one else’s have been touched–for either Party A or B.) I’m hoping they just took it ’cause they saw we had extra and wanted one of their own…but I suspect it was the garbage men who came by and took our neighbor’s garbage yesterday (the neighbors with Party A signs in their yard), and swiped it under cover of their big truck. Hmph.

2. Finished Season Two of Robin Hood. Holy crap. What a way to end the season.

Loved King Richard, btw. Perfectly cast, IMO. Still love and adore Robin. And have a huge crush on Will. Allan rocked too.

Never thought that Guy did anything really heroic, by the way, even though some of you (ahem, Holli) thought that he did in one episode–that was too selfishly-motivated to be heroic for me.

And my poor, dear Robin.

If you watched Robin Hood, and want to talk about it, go for it in the comments–just note spoilers for those who don’t want to be…well, spoiled. I’ll check back in later today, ’cause I have a lot to say too.

Seriously.
