It wasn’t that I ignored your warnings…

It was that we already sort of knew we’d be adopting a puppy today. (I got lots of emails and Twitters from people saying “Don’t do it!!”)

See, we have a 7 year old German Shepherd. She’s our second GSD and we got her when our first one was about 10, and really slowing down.

But last summer we were going to get a second dog…but we never found a breeder or a place that we felt comfortable with. So it’s just been sort of simmering there, waiting for the “right” time.

And it so happened to be yesterday. My daughter (who never reads the paper) just happened to see an ad for GSD puppies, in the town next to us, and since my Music Man and I had taken the day off to hang with the kiddos (on the lake at some friends’ house), we thought we’d pop by and see the pups.

All was well. We had good vibes, liked the pups, liked the parents and the setup of the breeder…and all my daughters had to do was look up at Music Man with their big blue (or brown) eyes and he was done for.

Plus he can’t resist a puppy anyway.

So we’re going to pick up Frodo (great name, huh?) today…he’s nine weeks old and just adorable. I’ll post pics when I get them.

So wish me luck.

Oh, wait…I’m the one leaving for my booktour this weekend. *mwhahahaha*

Wish Music Man luck!

Oh dear.

Carl V. of Stainless Steel Droppings has gone to extremes.

Click on the link if you dare…but be warned. You won’t thank me.

Tuesday agenda.

Slept in a bit late this morning after watching Jonathon Horton’s beautiful work on the parallel bars and the floor. He can rock me any day. Fabulous. Did you see????

Just signed up for a second child’s orthodontics. Oh joy. Better sell some more books!

The kids are dragging us to check out a litter of German Shepherd pups….uh-oh. Could be expanding our family by another!

And I ended up erasing a post I was going to make about Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, who really needs to stand up and take it like a man. And by that, I mean step the f&ck down. (If you haven’t been following the story, go here.)

For those of you who have your hands on When Twilight Burns, don’t forget about Stainless Steel Droppings’ photo contest–the prize is an ARC of As Shadows Fade and a vis bulla tee.

Off to hang with the kids for awhile.

Olympics and West Side Story

So I made it through the production on Saturday. Unfortunately, my two youngest children were completely bored except when Music Man was onstage, so they made me take them out into the lobby for a good portion of the show. The choreography was pretty good, and I liked the set. The actors were all right (but Tony couldn’t sing) and seeing the show reminded me how much I didn’t like it.

Case in point: Tony comes to Maria’s bedroom after he kills Bernardo, tells her that he did–and she hugs him and invites him to bed. No tears, no hesitation. Nope, just: You killed my brother that I adore even though he treats me like a baby? That’s okay…climb in bed and take my virginity even though his blood is on your hands.

Um. Yeah.

There were other things (and I can critique community theater shows because I’ve done enough of them over the years, so I know whereof I speak)…that I won’t go into. Suffice to say, Music Man was good (reminded me of Robert DeNiro) and the rest of it was all right.

Now. Onto the Olympics. The swimming relays last night??? Was that not The Best?

Heart-pounding, unbelievable. Loved it.

And I’m trying to find a clip of the women’s fencing–I want to show my son and daughter. (They took fencing lessons and want to get back into it.)

So this is a busy week. On Friday I leave for my event near Chicago (Oak Brook, IL)…anyone coming out?

Saturday, I’ll be in Terre Haute. And Sunday I’ll be near St. Louis, in Brentwood, MO.

Hope to meet some of you out there!

Thanks to everyone who came to the signings this weekend! Great turnouts…and a special thanks to Lori who drove so far to come! Your hubby is a gem.

Bad wife confession.

Hope to see some of you tonight at the Borders in Flint, Michigan, for my booksigning.

And I’ll be at the Borders in Brighton, Michigan, on Saturday for another signing. Are you coming out?

Then the fam and I are heading off to see the Music Man play Lieutenant Schrank in a community theater production of West Side Story.

Can I make a confession?

I hate West Side Story.

I really do. I mean, first of all, it’s Romeo & Juliet…and I’m a romance writer. I don’t care for tragic endings (the end of The Rest Falls Away doesn’t count…because…well, because it doesn’t.)

And also…West Side Story is all about gangs and killings and rapes. Give me a good old vampire slayer any day, thank you very much.

And finally…that song. That song! “I Feel Pretty.” Ugh. Ugh-me-ugh! Yes, I understand it’s supposed to be ironic. But I hate the song. Really. Hate. The. Song.

So, this is how much I love my Music Man: I am going to sit through this play that I hate am not crazy about at all, take my kids to see a show with a bunch of gang violence and rapes, in order to see him in three scenes–and he doesn’t sing in any of them.

And, did I mention…I hate the show?

So, am I a bad wife?
